About Hers and His Best

Hers and His Best is a website dedicated to your passion - perfumes and colognes!

We do in-depth research by investigating all the relevant material. Then we test the fragrances to bring you the very best perfumes available today and make your purchases easy.

In reviewing each fragrance we try to put perfume into the context of life. In addition to describing the perfume notes, and the development of the fragrance over time, we answer such questions as:

  • Who would a scent be best suited to?
  • When and where would you wear it?
  • How will it make you feel?
  • What is the longevity and sillage like?

It is difficult to describe a scent because smell is so tied up with emotion and memory, connected in the very base of our brains where we first feel.

When you smell something, you will "feel" it before you think anything. For us to understand a perfume, we have to see if it brings up a memory, a wish, a dream, a desire, or an emotion.

Without a narrative, it either smells good or smells bad or just smells okay. At Hers and His Best we try to bring those associations with memories and emotions to life.

But we have much more to offer than perfume reviews: visit our About Perfumes and Colognes section to get great advise on how to get the most from your fragrance. And read some interesting articles about specific perfume types and ingredients.

We hope that you will enjoy your experience with Hers and His Best! And we welcome any suggestions on how the website can be made even better for you. Contact us here.

My name is Amy and I am the founder of Hers and His Best. This is me on a cold day in Paris.

I have been obsessed with perfume ever since I can remember - an obsession that was shared with my mother who was an avid collector of perfumes. I have completed several courses on perfumery and find that there is always more to learn.

My husband and I have traveled quite a bit and look forward to traveling some more. Our travels included a trip to the Caribbean where we visited the Dutch Antilles, Saint Lucia, and Barbados. Great duty-free perfume shopping opportunities at the airports!

We have also visited the magical spice island of Zanzibar. The amazingly beautiful beaches and the ancient Arabic architecture will always hold a special place in my heart - not to mention the fresh spices!

Our most recent trip was to Paris – surely the most magical of all cities! It was cold and rainy, but we made the best of our time there visiting as many of the museums and art galleries as we could and browsing through the local shops. Of course I could not leave without buying perfume from the Serge Lutens shop in Palais Royal!
