Histoires de Parfums is an interesting, fun and delightfully subversive French house. The founder and Parfumeur Gérald Ghislain created the 2000 collection. Famous characters, their mythical years, poetry and music encourage the illustrious (and somewhat unscrupulous, we think) imagination of Ghislain to produce perfume - a sensitive and sensual medium for telling stories. The fragrances are ‘rich and romantic by temperament and witty' - and blue.
Histoires de Parfums' famous 'This is Not A Blue Bottle' series, always presented in a bright blue bottle, was inspired by The Treachery of Images, a famous artwork from the 1920s by the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte. The painting shows the image of a pipe above a declaration which reads, translated from French, as 'This is not a pipe'. It refers to the line where things go from void to existence, where there is a profound depth of possibility.
The En Aparte trilogy of fragrances is intended to evoke stories in perfume the way books evoke emotions. With this collection he created, which includes Irrévérent, Prolixe, and Outrecuidant, Ghislain's intent is to reinvent ‘classic’ olfactive categories in unconventional ways.
The other perfumes in our collection created by Histoires de Parfums and reviewed here are based on famous characters.
