cologne for older men

Picking the best cologne is a personal choice that requires time and consideration. When you find yourself in need of a new scent, it's important to keep some key points in mind: what do I want my fragrance to say about me? What kind of scents am I drawn to? Do I prefer lighter or heavier fragrances? Answering these questions will help you choose the perfect cologne for any occasion.

You may be interested in reading our Men's Cologne Guide for Beginners if you are not familiar with fragrance notes, perfume concentrations, how to wear colognes, and more.

Your cologne says a lot about you. It can give off an impression of how successful and confident you are, or it may even tell people what your personality is like!

To help narrow down the choices for those who don't know where to start in terms of what they need from their colognes, we have compiled a list of some of the best fragrances for older men here.

I think it is true that there are some men's fragrances that work for an older man and some that don't. Most are really meant for young men who feel they have something to prove. Men over fifty do not feel that they have to prove anything to anyone. Older men should focus on serious, classic fragrances like those described in this article.

The fragrances in this guide were carefully chosen with style-conscious, best cologne for 50 year old man. Most of them downplay citrusy scents in the top notes and lean on masculine notes like wood and musk in the base. Many evoke smokey and leather accords. The scents in this article were chosen for their universal appeal to those men who have a little more experience than others.

Our List Of The Best Cologne For Older Men

1. Our Top Choice: Gucci Guilty Absolute

Best cologne for older men -Gucci Guilty Absolute. one of the classic fragrances from Gucci

Gucci is a very reputable and popular fragrance house. Guilty Absolute is for the man who has now become the director of the company where he previously worked. This is a wearable, mature, and deep scent.

Guilty Absolute has a slightly aminalic smell reminiscent of the Sun King's stable, the most luxurious stable in France, where the smell of horses and leather saddles is elevated to olfactory art. A beautiful fragrance for those who, in this age group, want and can dare a lot.

These fragrance notes are all about woody and leathery vetiver notes with an enchanting touch of ancient cypress and cedarwood and a hint of patchouli in the dry down. Leather is the main player here, but it also features a good mix of woods darkened by patchouli. It's loud, bold, has great performance, yet still finds a way to be smooth and very well blended.

If you are at a point in your fragrance journey where you want to try fragrances that are more daring or challenging, and you enjoy leather scents, Guilty Absolute is a good choice for an older man.

Wear Guilty Absolute for the office, smart-casual, semi-formal, or formal events. Cool evenings bring out the best in this fragrance. It is a very long-lasting cologne; the projection is moderate.

It smells like real wood, leather, and manliness. Very little sweetness if any at all. If you hate modern fragrances for men, which are very sweet, then this is it. In general, people who will like this fragrance will also love most of the manly fragrances of the past. Starts more medicinal, then dries down to a simple vetiver or just wood in general. Hard to sample, so only blind buy is an option, but again, if you HATE sweet fragrances, this is a no brainer. Fantastic scent.

Fragrance Notes - Top: Leather. Heart: Cypress, Patchouli .Base: Woody notes, Vetiver

2. Excellent Value: Old-School Elegance - Creed Viking Eau de Parfum

Best cologne for older men - Creed Viking

This old-school yet the modern fragrance is a wonderful choice of a good cologne for men: it's created in the style of what your grandfather used to wear in the 40s or 50s. Wear it to be at the top of elegance and seductiveness - it is the best cologne for 60 years, old men.

On the first spray, Creed Viking opens with a moderate projection of spicy, green, and citrusy notes. The opening is masculine, well-balanced, mature, and pleasant. The pink pepper and mint are the strongest spicy notes. The mint is sharp, fresh - a cooling green scent.

The zesty notes of bergamot and lemon come and go. The combined strength of the pepper and mint overpowers the brief scent of the citruses. With that, the base notes surface: the patchouli and intense vetiver combine their notes in a green touch that is closer to the vetiver than the patchouli. This accord gives the fragrance a more mature character.

The sandalwood and rose are support notes, adding some floral and sweet woody tones but are not prominent. Other than the citrusy scent, all the other notes remain for the rest of the duration of the fragrance.

Creed Viking is very versatile and can be worn to formal events, outdoor gatherings, the office, and on casual occasions. This classic cologne can be worn all year round. It has moderate longevity (about 4 hours), and the projection is not too strong.

I feel like this gets a bad wrap and it’s actually pretty darn good. Has an initial burst of bergamot and a nice combination of cool freshness from the citruses, lavender and mint with the rose infused red hot spicy/woodiness. Almost feels therapeutic and I find it quite energising and invigorating.
To me it doesn’t smell like Old Spice if anything it’s more akin to something like Caron L’Anarchiste but spicier and bolder. Aromatic, musky and peppery with a lovely sandlewood and vetiver drydown and feels pure, naturalistic and elemental. Maybe not something earth-shattering or overly fancy but really enjoyable nonetheless. Strong, powerful and masculine like it’s namesake.

Fragrance Notes:

Top: Pepper, Calabrian bergamot, Sicilian lemon

Heart: Pepper, Spicy mint, Bulgarian rose

Base: Sandalwood, Lavender, Haitian vetiver and Indian patchouli

3. Deluxe: Uomo? By Moschino

Best cologne for older men - Uomo By Moschino

To keep a lower profile and simply smell good and fresh, we have Moschino's Uomo? - a classic cologne and one of the best fragrances you can buy.

The aldehydes enhance the coriander, kumquat, and rosewood for a beautiful sweet fresh opening. The cinnamon pops up shortly thereafter and enhances the scent. The other notes appear but are not very prominent.

This popular fragrance evolves to a beautiful soapy finish as the cedar comes into the mix. The dry down is a sweet and powdery woody floral experience, with the musk more of a subdued means of adding warmth to the brighter top notes. The warm woody base tones remain prominent to the end.

Uomo? can be worn all year round during the day, especially in warmer weather. It makes a great office or casual scent. Longevity (around 7 hours) and projection are really good. This is a classic gentlemanly good cologne for men and worth a try.

Really good floral, musky, kumquat fragrance. Soft and subdued but still very good projection, bordering to beastmode! Indeed has that Reflection vibe, but different ofcourse, Uomo? is more citric and more mellow. And for it's price? It's a steal!!!

Top: Kumquat, Aldehydes, Coriander, Brazilian rosewood

Middle Notes: Cyclamen, Cinnamon, Clary sage, Labdanum

Base: Musk, Ambergris, Cedar, Wormwood

4. Vintage Appeal: Azzaro Pour Homme EDT

Best cologne for older men -Azzaro pour Homme

Azzaro pour Homme cologne was launched in 1978 and is still one of the most iconic fragrances. This is a vintage fragrance - an aspect that could please an older man.

The opening favors the brief, sharp citrus notes. They enhance the spicy anise, caraway, and purple lavender. As the fragrance dries down, the citrus notes recede. The oakmoss and leather develop, giving the fragrance a mossy, musky, and classy character.

Finally, the strong initial projection becomes moderate. Once Azzaro Pour Homme has reached its full dry down, it can be summarized as a moderate projection, spicy anise, caraway, mossy oakmoss, tonka bean, purple floral lavender, and musky leather fragrance with green, sweet, and faint citrus fruits accords.

Azzaro Pour Homme is a classy fragrance ideal for older men. This cologne lasts around 5 hours. It is best for winter, spring, fall, colder days, and climate-controlled environments. It is an ideal casual or formal wear fragrance.

Lemon oil, fresh, vetiver and heavy lavender with musk, and a twist of anise, clean crisp, zingy with some green undertones. Masculine, timeless, barbershop classic. Soapy and clean. Newer batches do not perform so well. But it's a nice fragrance to reach out for on a warm spring day, just casually when you want to feel confident.

Top Notes: Lavender, Anise, Lemon, Caraway, Basil, Bergamot, Clary sage, Iris

Heart Notes: Vetiver, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Cedar, Juniper berries, Cardamom

Base Notes: Oakmoss, Leather, Amber, Musk, Tonka beans

5. Confidence In A bottle: Eau Sauvage EDT By Christian Dior

Eau Sauvage EDT

Eau Sauvage cologne made its debut in 1966, and even though it was Dior's first fragrance for men, it was soon recognized as a classic scent - it is truly one of those timeless colognes that never loses its appeal.

The opening is that of lemon, bergamot, rosemary, sandalwood combined, but with the signature scent of citrus as the dominant theme. About 25 minutes in, the fruity notes, rose, carnation, jasmine, basil, and spicy notes emerge. Thirty-five minutes in, the vetiver makes an appearance, and the total effect is that the perfume is more green and herby than citrus dominant. Two hours in and the amber, spice, and oakmoss have taken over, and Eau Sauvage has become a woody green perfume with a hint of citrus.

Eau Sauvage is a versatile and gentle perfume. It is really more of a skin scent from start to finish. It lasts about seven hours, and the sillage is moderate. This refreshing scent is great for warmer spring and hot summer days. This is confidence in a bottle!

Smells lovely. The citrus is impeccable. But I must seriously overspray to enjoy the time of a commute, let alone a morning. I'd mark this a love if 1/2 to 1 liter splash bottles were 50 bucks. It's a chic after shower splash. Rather than 100 bucks retail for 100ml with an atomizer. (OK 60-70 discounted). This fragrance is a cash grab. The current bottles of Dior Eau Fraîche offer more oomph. I've bought both chypres, so I've indulged here in commodity value critique. No quibble about the blends. In fact I bought 2 more bottles of the Eau Fraîche to give as gifts.

Top: Lemon, Bergamot, Basil, Rosemary, Caraway, Fruity notes

6. Very Likable: Light Blue Pour Homme EDT By Dolce & Gabbana

Light Blue Pour Homme EDT by Dolce & Gabbana

Light Blue Pour Homme is lovely citrus, woody, spicy, and smoky fragrance with a unique touch. Most people will like this clean scent - a perfect cologne for older men.

This cologne opens with a gentle projection of citrus, woody, and spicy accords. The opening is fresh, sour, bitter, and pleasant. Mandarin, grapefruit, and bergamot combine to add a sweet, sour, and bitter touch, and they are prominent opening notes. The woods are the second and noticeable accord, a combination of pine and fresh wood resulting from the juniper and rosewood. The rosemary and pepper are spicy notes.

As the fragrance moves to dry-down, the musk and incense come up with a moderate touch, but both create a solid projection. The musk is a mild, white musk. The bouquet is noticeable, and it comes up as a smoky accord.
The citrus notes are sharper during the opening, and they lose some of that sharpness, but not intensity, towards the dry-down. The musk and incense develop power and projection towards the dry-down, but their notes are noticeable as soon as the fragrance is applied.

Very versatile, Light Blue Pour Homme is a great and projecting daytime fragrance ideal for any season except winter. At 4 hours, it is not very long-lasting, so you may need to touch up during the day. The projection is moderate.

Top: Grapefruit, Bergamot, Sicilian mandarin, Juniper

Middle: Pepper, Rosemary, Brazilian rosewood

Base: Incense, Musk, Oakmoss

7. Classy And Very Masculine: Obsession For Men EDT By Calvin Klein

Best cologne for middle aged man - Obsession For Men EDT by Calvin Klein

Obsession For Men by Calvin Klein

Obsession For Men by Calvin Klein is a delightful, mildly sweet, resinous, and spicy fragrance with soft floral and green notes.

Obsession opens with gentle, sweet, spicy, resinous, floral, and woody notes. The opening is mature, aromatic, and ambery. There is a faint citrus accord, but it quickly fades away, letting the cinnamon, amber, and myrrh become the most prominent notes. The cinnamon is spicy and sweet; it is well blended with myrrh, which adds a sweet but resinous touch. The carnation and lavender accords are not as prominent as the featured notes. There are some lovely woods as well: a little green pine, fragrant rosewood, and sandalwood. The sandalwood adds to the sweetness of the fragrance. The vetiver, patchouli, and musk are softer, supporting the other notes. The vanilla is also noticeable and adds to the sweetness. The last and prominent note is the musk, a projecting note that becomes stronger with the dry down.

Wear Obsession in cooler weather to make the most of its warm character. It is most suitable for evenings, but you can also use it for special daytime occasions. This men's fragrance with timeless appeal is very long-lasting with quite a strong sillage.

I haven’t worn this one in quite some time and had a major hankering for it. A nice smooth spicy/balsamic blend of warm dusty cinnamon, nutmeg and clove spiced citruses plus red berries and myrrh with floral, sage and lavender accents. All on a creamy, ambery sandlewood, musk and patchouli base and a little sweet with a touch of vanilla. Almost like a bay rum or cola and even get a hint of chocolate but it’s not too heavy like some of its big hitting 80s contemporaries.
A real classic with a distinctive smell and comforting feel. Quite an addictive and enticing scent too that’s expertly blended and put together no wonder it did so well and still holds up well today.

Top: Cinnamon, Lavender, Coriander, Mandarin orange, Lime, Bergamot, Grapefruit

Middle: Myrhh, Nutmeg, Carnation, Brazilian rosewood, Pine tree, Sage, Jasmine, Red berries

Base: Amber, Vanilla, Sandalwood, Musk, Patchouli, Vetiver

8. A Classy Fougere: Eternity For Men EDT By Calvin Klein

Eternity For Men Eau de Toilette By Calvin Klein

Eternity For Men by Calvin Klein

A timeless fragrance, Eternity for Men, is a clean and classy aromatic cologne in the fougere style. It is hidden and versatile enough to wear all the time, yet special enough to get you many compliments. This is one of the top Calvin Klein cologne.

This fragrance opens with an excellent combination of citrus and clean-smelling floral notes. The citrus note is sweetened by the mandarin orange that tames the sharp edges of the bergamot smell  and lemon. Lavender creates a fresh, clean, relaxing, and aromatic tone. The mid notes join the blend, bringing a combination of spicy, woody, and floral accords. The florals are relatively soft and do not play a dominant role. The woody accords are more noticeable: clean, aromatic, and slightly mossy. The most prominent base notes are the musk and the vetiver that adds a refreshing green tone. The Brazilian rosewood and sandalwood contribute to the overall woody feel of the fragrance.

Eternity is a daytime fragrance to wear in spring and summer. Great for any occasion, this fragrance could quickly become your signature scent. The longevity is moderate, so you may need to touch up later in the day. The sillage is not too strong either.

Weak sauce. Smells great for an hour or 2 then it’s gone on my hot skin. I suppose it’s great for a non cologne person to wear to events, but then I doubt that guy wears any fragrance anyway. Smelled rich & amazing years ago, but now smells thin and diluted with alcohol. I wonder what the current & vintage concentrations are. Thankfully it’s dirt cheap so worth having around.

Spray heavy & pair with old spice steel titan deodorant to project a bit. Also good after the gym. Masculine. Best worn by a groomed guy with simple style. T-shirt jeans & a shave or a shirt & tie kinda guy. Women tend to love this one on me if they can smell it.

Top: Lavender, Lemon, Bergamot, Mandarin orange

Middle: Juniper berries, Sage, Coriander, Geranium, Basil, Jasmine, Orange blossom, Lily, Lily-of-the-valley

Base: Sandalwood, Vetiver, Musk, Brazilian Rosewood, Amber

9. Parisian class: Guerlain Habit Rouge Eau de Parfum

Guerlain Habit Rouge cologne, the best cologne for grandpa.

Guerlain Habit Rouge

First released in 1965, this was the first oriental fragrance for men. With complex notes, this classic amber woody fragrance by the legendary house of Guerlain makes a strong statement. This is a very special men's cologne that I am sure you will enjoy!

Habit Rouge starts off powdery and soft. Then a wave of citrus, mostly lemon, comes to the fore but quickly gives way to powdery sandalwood. Beautiful rosewood and suede tones come through with just a hint of the lemon, but never the sharp lemon from the opening. The rosewood matures into more of a rose with suede velvet undertones. That hint of lemon remains just strong enough to make everything else pop. The dry down is a powdery woody oriental and very masculine.

Luxurious and rich cologne, Habit Rouge should be reserved for formal occasions. Its unique scent and warm nature make it good cologne for men to wear during fall and winter - day or night. The longevity is excellent, and the sillage is quite strong.

I went from hating this 2 years ago to loving it now. I bought a 200ml bottle based on MrSmelly's Youtube review and it was one of the rare disappointments at first. It seemed too old fashioned, grandma rose and dusty. I even used it as bathroom spray for a while. Every 4-5 months, I'd try it on skin again and still disliked it. But then...

About 2 months ago...I started to understand the beauty of the famous "guerlainade". And once I bought Guerlain Homme and enjoyed it, for some reason, I started to really respect Habit Rouge, even if I didn't love it.

Then one day, boom. I loved it. The lemon rose sherbert opening that used to put me off was now felt like a refreshing drink. The powdery rose leather drydown made me feel like I was at a mid-century bar flirting with a glamorous career girl playing with her hair. I just felt like a confident gentleman. Sample it, not a blind buy. But after years of hating this, I now love it.

10. Refreshing: Tommy Bahama Maritime EDC

Tommy Bahama Maritime Eau de Cologne

Tommy Bahama Maritime

A modern cologne, Maritime is a great aromatic aquatic fragrance. It mixes soft sea notes with a slightly floral scent. This fresh fragrance is one of the best colognes for warm weather.

Maritime opens with fresh bergamot and hints of a mix of floral notes. It feels very fresh and clean. About midway through, there is a hint of ambergris mixed with the top notes. It dries down into a softer, more subtle aromatic fresh scent. The floral top notes make lingering appearances throughout, while the sandalwood base notes makes for a soft cashmere feeling.

Wear Maritime on warm spring and summer days when you are out and about - it is energizing and refreshing and sure to get you a few compliments! This fragrance is quite long-lasting for cologne, but you may have to touch it up towards the end of the day. The sillage is moderate. This is one of the best aquatic colognes for older men.

Meh. I have 5 Tommy Bahama fragrances and this is my least favorite by far. Simply put, it's boring. Typical ocean aquatic that fades to nothing almost as soon as it's out of the bottle. If you're looking for something like that, stick with Nautica Voyage which has a lot more depth and interest and actually lasts a while.

Fragrance Notes - Top: Lavender, Pink pepper, Bergamot, Clary sage. Middle Notes: Violet leaf, Water lily, Geranium, Ambergris, Jasmine. Base: Cedar, Musk, Moss, Sandalwood.

11. Sophisticated And Fresh: Acqua di Parma Colonia Eau de Cologne

A cologne for 40 year old man - Acqua di Parma Colonia

Acqua di Parma Colonia

Slightly old-school, Acqua di Parma Colonia is a citrus unisex fragrance, but it leans more masculine - one of the best colognes for older men.

The opening is lovely bright, juicy citrus notes. These are enhanced by lavender and rosemary, which, together with the lemon verbena, step forward at the start of the mid notes. But it is the rose at the heart of the cologne that is the star performer. The fragrance base brings out a nice, enduring mix of masculine notes like vetiver, sandalwood, and patchouli. There is also a light hint of white musk.

Colonia is not overly citrusy; the floras ensure that this cologne remains more of a floral chypre scent. And the base notes ground the fragrance and steer it into a more masculine arena.

Wear Acqua di Parma Colonia on warm spring and hot summer days to keep you energized and refreshed. This fragrance has moderate longevity, and the sillage is weak to moderate. This is a classy cologne it belongs to best mature men's fragrances.

This fragrance is amazing. How many fragrances have the history and legend of Colonia? Furthermore, the scent itself is not outdated in my opinion. Colonia is a fresh, clean, sophisticated, natural fragrance. It’s timeless and I encourage you to find it on discounters and buy the big 180 ml bottle. I love to wear this out of the shower. It’s lasts a solid 5 hours. I found it energizing and uplifting.

Fragrance Notes: Sicilian citruses, Lavender, Rosemary, Lemon verbena, Bulgarian rose, Vetiver, White musk, Jasmine, Sandalwood, Amber, Patchouli

12. A Natural: Vetiver de Guerlain EDT

Vetiver de Guerlain

Vetiver de Guerlain

A timeless masterpiece, Vetiver de Guerlain is a woody aromatic fragrance for men that was launched in 2000 - you can't go wrong with this scent. Guerlain's Vetiver is classic and modern, clean and earthy, uplifting and rooted.

Vetiver de Guerlain opens mainly with tobacco, bergamot, lemon, and coriander. The others notes are noticeably there too. The middle and base notes are all present and so well blended by Guerlain as to elicit much-deserved respect and appreciation. Spicy, woody, earthy, and quite remarkable. This is a very natural fragrance that appeals today as much as ever.

Vetiver de Guerlain is perfect for warmer weather in spring, summer, and fall. This scent has excellent longevity, and the sillage is moderate. It is ideal for the office and just about any other occasion!

This is a very interesting fragrance, with a 3d smokiness that is evolving. Even tho it is a Vetiver based fragrance, it is not another boring and overly used one, like many on the market. You can smell the Vetiver, but the tobacco notes are very present and on the dry down it becomes even more apparent. The day i tried it for the first time, i had just spent a good time cooking a barbecue, and my coat had the characteristic smoke smell, and when i sprayed this Vetiver on a clean shirt i could compare and see the smell was similar and very realistic, but in a good way. I know that a barbecue smoke smell is not pleasant, but in the case of Guerlain Vetiver, it is.

Fragrance Notes - Top: Bergamot, Tobacco, Lemon, Nutmeg, Neroli, Coriander, Mandarin orange. Heart Notes: Vetiver, Pepper, Carnation, Sage, Orris root, Sandalwood

Base Notes: Vetiver, Oakmoss, Leather, Myrrh, Civet, Tonka bean, Amber.

Trussardi Riflesso Eau de Toilette Spray for Men

Trussardi Riflesso Eau de Toilette

Hyped up as a LNDL dupe but is simply isn't. It does share some similarities: tonka, lavender but that hardly makes it LNDL. Has some shades of YSL L'homme too but again it is not a dupe. Also reminds me a bit of Fahrenheit with violet and leather notes but again not a dupe. It's like a weird combo of the three that struggles to establish an identity.
Opening is rather harsh and smells quite synthetic. They drydown becomes less harsh and sweetness takes over but just leads to a forgettable experience though one may argue l'homme and LNDL are the same. As long as you aren't looking for a dupe or combo of the l'homme/LNDL then you should be satisfied with Riflesso. Good but nothing spectacular. I'd much rather put up with the poor performance of the L'homme or LNDL and their high pricing than settle for Riflesso.

Terre D'Hermes by Hermes for Men

This is one of my signature fragrances that sits very close to Bel Ami by Hermes my all time favorite. The fantastic citrussy opening is fresh and crisp and then it settles down to black paper and patchouli on my skin and nose. I can smell it off myself for hours and hours and enjoy it. Such a unique and classic masterpiece! So many flankers and copies of it have been created over years but nothing has replaced the original for me not even the EDP version.

If you like dirty and earthy citrus, wood, and a sharp tone of black paper, then this is for you. If you like it to be a bit sweeter and warmer then the EDP version. I tell everyone who asks me to get both because although they are reminiscences of each others but yet are different. Both versions are all year around fragrances.

Polo Eau De Toilette Spray

Polo Eau De Toilette

I wore this back in my late teens, when I would borrow some from my dads splash aftershave bottle. I remember it making me feel like I had immediately grown three inches taller. It was a grown up scent, that had a real clean yet earthy feel to it. It reminds me of growing up and trying to get a pint from the bars of the local pubs whilst underage. Along with Fahrenheit it is also the scent that I most associate with my late dad.

I hadn’t smelled it in years until I recently bought a bottle having smelled a sample in a department store. Whilst it instantly took me back to my youth, it has also taken on a new facet in my opinion. It is nowhere near as potent as the original was, but the original did have more of a pine and woody tone to the whole scent. Today’s is a more complicated offering. It still has the ability to make you feel like the boss, but the tones it uses are much more earthy and powerful than they were before.

Its a really good reformulation and keeps the original dna.

Elvis Presley Forever for Him Cologne Eau De Parfum

Elvis Presley Forever is a fresh fragrance that is perfect for women who have a playful attitude and love music. It’s a cool scent that opens up with notes of raspberries and ends with freesia. The perfume is inspired by the King Of Rock And Roll.

Elvis Presley Forever for Him

Christian Dior Fahrenheit Men Eau de Toilette

Fahrenheit Men Eau de Toilette is iconic. I usually review more feminine scents but this deserved a mention. 10/10. Classic. There hasn't been nor will there be a better leather/cedar/violet men's cologne.
Longevity? 24 hours, 2 sprays. Sillage? Strong; it will fill up the room. However it's not cloying because the cedar keeps things grounded and fresh. It smells like leather, an expensive car, pine forests and spice. Strong lumberjack vibes. It's very masculine and due to its powerhouse vibes probably safer for nighttime in cooler temps, but it could be worn in the daytime if used sparingly.
It's such a classic and hasn't been imitated since. Dior has excellent men's cologne offerings and this is probably my favorite that they've released. A close second (but not really due to lacking some punch) would be Elixir des Merveilles; it has some of that cedar-spice vibe but it's much more feminine leaning.
